Hospital Services
Membership of the hospital
only covers admission and
treatment in the hospital but not
outpatient treatment.
Admission to cfb Hospital, for people who are members of the hospital only,
must always be by referral from a doctor. This will usually be a non-cfb doctor,
but in the event of a cfb doctor being used for referral, a consultation fee
will be charged.
Membership
of cfb Hospital becomes effective after
seven days, except when there is a pre-existing
condition subject to a waiting period -
see clause 6 under "Services
Not Covered by the Hospital Membership".
It is not possible to join the hospital
at the time of admission and immediately
have all treatment covered.
Admission of members of cfb Hospital is subject to the availability of a bed,
but should the hospital be full and a bed unavailable immediately, the patient
will be admitted in another hospital at cfb's expense until a bed becomes available.
Services Covered by Hospital Membership on Admission
Hospital
accommodation and a light breakfast meal
("bed & breakfast") up to
ten days free, and in any calendar year
thirty accumulative free admission days
will be allowed. But if any single admission
is longer than ten days there will be
a nominal charge for the next ten days,
and a commercial charge per day thereafter.
All charges are available on request.
- Twenty-four hours medical care
- Nursing care and all consumable items
(syringes, needles, dressings, infusion
sets etc.).
NB: If a patient's admission exceeds the
"free" ten-day period and extra
charges are incurred, the daily rate includes
nursing care and consumables.
- All specialist consultation fees, provided
that the treating doctor requests the
consultation. If the patient demands consultation
with a visiting doctor, without the advice
of the treating doctor, then the patient
must pay the fees.
High
care facility is available for 48 hours,
after which time a patient needing continuing
high / intensive care will be assessed
by the doctor, and transferred to a suitable
longer term facility within Zambia, or
transferred for treatment elsewhere at
the patient's expense (this is because
there are only two high care beds available
in cfb hospital).
- Gynaecological and maternity care including
delivery by doctor or midwife, whether
the delivery be normal or assisted.
- Newborn infants
(i) A baby born to a mother with Hospital

including special care facilities if necessary
(ie. incubator & phototherapy). Consultants

(such as circumcision) will be paid for.
(ii) Hospital membership for a mother
subject to exclusion covers the newborn
infant for hospital admission & nursing
care on payment of a daily bed rate at
a reduced price. All other doctor's fees
and treatment (including special care
facilities) will be paid for.
- Surgical operations up to a moderate
level as per examples below:
* Some abdominal surgery (eg. appendicectomy,
hernia repair etc.)
* Gynaecological surgery (eg. D&C,
vaginal repair, hysterectomy etc.)
* General surgery (eg. varicose veins,
circumcision, excision of lump etc.)
NB See "Services
Not Covered by Hospital Membership"
Clause 7 & 8 for conditions.
