Membership of Clinic and Hospital
A person who has joint membership of both clinic and hospital may make use of
the services provided in both facilities, and the same conditions will apply.
Policy for Admission and Treatment of HIV/AIDS Related Cases
A person admitted in hospital with any condition related to HIV/AIDS will be
treated in the same confidential and discretionary manner as any other patient.
If such a patient is admitted for a long period of time, the same rules
regarding long-term admission will apply (see clause 1).
A new hospital member who requires admission for HIV/AIDS related illness is
subject to a two year waiting period before treatment is covered (see clause
6 under Services NOT Covered by Hospital Membership).
Treatment of Emergencies
Initial emergency resuscitation will be carried out either in the treatment
room of the outpatient clinic, or in hospital, to stabilise the patient's
condition. Subsequent admission and further treatment, or transfer to another
unit, will be implemented at the discretion of the doctor.
If a patient is flown out of the country, or is advised admission in some other
hospital, the patient will bear the charges.
Rules for Child Delivery at cfb Hospital
- A new hospital member is not covered for childbirth for the first year of
membership. if she has a baby during that period she will be required to pay
for the delivery, (which includes the first 24 hours in hospital and doctor's
fee), drugs and some incidental charges for consumables. If she is admitted
for longer than 24 hours she pays the daily bed charge for the second and
subsequent days, but at a reduced rate.
- A patient who has been a member for more than one year and has a baby is
covered for delivery (including the paediatrician present at the delivery),
but pays for drugs.
- A non-member who wishes to have her baby delivered at cfb Hospital will
pay the delivery charge, which includes the first 24 hours in hospital and
doctor's fee)*, plus a commercial charge for any subsequent days in hospital,
drugs and all consumables.
- If a mother or baby is seen by any other specialist (such as paediatrician)
a fee will be incurred. This applies to non-members and members subject to
exclusion.

- If the method of delivery is by Caesarean section, the charges will be as
set out below:

* Operation fee, which covers surgeon's skill and visits
* Theatre charges (40% of operation cost)
* Paediatrician's fee (Paediatrician is present at delivery)
* Consumables (dressings, swabs, suture materials, gloves, etc.)
* Anaesthetic gases and aneasthetic drugs
* Daily bed rate at a commercial rate (includes nursing care), except first
day which is included in delivery charge.
* All pharmaceuticals
NB:
(i) A new member of the hospital who is subject to a waiting period will pay
the same charges as above except for the bed rate, which is charged at a reduced
rate.
(ii) If Caesarean Section is carried out purely at the patient's request, when
there is no medical indication, the patient will be charged as a non-member.
